1992  My View on ReadingExtensively

Bathed inso many worthy books, every one is faced with the option of reading method. Some think that we should read extensively. It is their conviction that, reading extensively could   easily enlarge knowledge, widen interestsand enrich lives. On the other hand, with the sharp increase in informationtoday, we are not allowed to read word by word. It seems an impossible missionto accomplish digesting carefully every material. Therefore, what we need nowadaysis to read extensively.

However, some people, on the contrary, hold the opposite point of view. In their eyes,we benefit much more from reading intensively. Only by following every word arewe able to comprehend the hidden meanings. Besides, without intensive reading,we are likely to miss a good many wonderful expressions, thoughtful words andeven truths. Thus, they suggest chewing a book mouth by mouth rather thansimply swallowing it at a time.

As far asI am concerned, we ought to learn to read extensively as well as intensively. It is not often possible, to read in merely one way. Instead of trying to readevery line and word in newspapers and magazine, we'd better summarize the mainidea. And when it comes to literature, art, science articles and others likethese; it is wise to read them intensively.

1993 My Idea of Becoming a Teacher in the Future

Moststudents want to become a business person, some want to work in a governmentdepartment, and only a few want to be a teacher. I’m one of the few. I thinkteaching is a noble job, and it is beneficial, too.

China is now developing her economy, which cannot be achieved without a solid foundation ofscience and technology. Without education, advanced science and technology isout of the question. It’s safe to say that teachers play a decisive role in thecountry’s economic development. Besides the importance of their job, China’s teachers enjoy a lot of special benefits. The job is secure; salaries areguaranteed, and there are two vacations in a year, of which people in otheroccupations are often jealous. One is a month long and the other lasts twomonths.

It’sglorious to do what the country most needs us to do. And personally I like theprofession of teaching.

1994     TV: a Good Thing or a Bad Thing?

With more and more teenagers students becoming addicted totelevision, and with more and more diseases such as obesity andnear-sightedness are proved to be TV-related diseases, some parents, teachers, and educators are complaining that television is causing more and moreproblems. However, I believe that television, despite its negative aspects, isa good thing on the whole.

Inthe first place, watching TV has the value of sheer relaxation. After a wholeday's tedious and tiresome work, one can get relaxed and refreshed whilewatching TV. In addition to being a source of relaxation, television is a mostconvenient source of entertainment. With numerous programs in store, all onehas to do is just to press a button, select his or her favorite channels. Mostimportant of all, television is educational. From preschoolers to adultstudents, everybody can get educated from different courses given ontelevision.

From the above discussion, we can use the television to relax, to have fun, andto make ourselves smarter. Then we criticize it for its negative influence, wemust bear in mind that television is a servant, not a master. Wisely used, television can be a good thing on the whole.

1995     Nowadays it has become fashionable forcollege students to take a part-time job in their spare time.  Discuss theadvantages and disadvantages of this trend.

In recent years, more and more college students begin to takepart-time jobs in their spare time to earn pocket money or even education feesby themselves and such a phenomenon has caused numerous heated debates amongthe people around us. From my standpoint, taking part-time jobs has advantagesas well as disadvantages.
As a socialactivity, a part-time job certainly offers college students substantialpractice, which is crucial to them after they graduate and go to their workposts. Besides, income earned from part-time jobs can solve their financialproblems, especially for those who come from poor-stricken areas. Moreover, with part-time jobs, college students can put what they have learned from theirbooks into use, thus connecting theories with practice and making abstractknowledge concrete and practical.
However, sincepart-time jobs take much of the students' time that must originally be spent ontheir studies, those who take them waste a great deal of time, therefore, theiracademic performance is tremendously affected. According to some worried sociologists, the duty of students is to acquire as much knowledge as possible so that theycould better serve the society after their graduation. As a result, such peopledeem part-time jobs, which are regarded contradictory to study, as “notattending to one's proper duties”.
Admittedly, people rarely reach an absolute consensus on such a controversial issue. Frommy point of view, so long as college students put their courses first andconcentrate on their studies while at school, certain amount of time spent onpart-time jobs is not incorrect. I think the most important for them to do isto balance the two aspects well and give priority to study if the twocontradict each other.

1996     The Main Difference Between My CollegeLife And My Middle School Life

It is generally accepted by college students that themain difference between middle school and college life lies in the degree ofindependence. As for me, I prefer the more independent life in university forthe following three reasons.
First andforemost, since the very day I entered the university, I have learned to liveon my own and cultivated the habit of solving problems by myself. Withoutparents company, I have learned to arrange my daily meals for myself, washclothes, set financial plans and make decisions relying on myself. Besides, college life is academically different from that in middle schools. Teachers inuniversity only give students due guidance at due time, which renders collegestudents more freedom to set academic goals. What’s more, we can choose anycourses we are interested in and the teachers whose teaching styles are to ourpreference. Last but not least, we enjoy more free extracurricular time. We canmake good use of the free time to broaden our views and make more friends.
In conclusion, Iam leading a life that is quite different from that in middle school, and Ienjoy more independence in university. To the freshmen, I would suggest theydevise various methods to adjust themselves to such an independent lifestylesooner.

1997   More Pressure from Academic Studies does (doesnot) Good to us

There has been a heated debate about the effect of pressure fromacademic studies on us students in college. Some of my fellow students arguethat it is not good for us to study under great pressure. Personally I do notagree to this view.
My argument isbased on the following two aspects. First, no pressure means no progress. Withthe development of our society, competition among people grows more and morefierce. College students are no exception. They must learn how to deal withfuture challenges foreseeable. Under proper pressure, each student has to workhard to lay a solid foundation in his or her specialty. Second, no pressuremeans no self-discipline. In our daily college life, quite a few students idleaway their spare time—even some of their academic time. With more academicpressure upon the students, they will cherish their time and haveself-restrictions with their study and even self-behavior.
In summary, Ibelieve more pressure from academic studies does a great deal of good to uscollege students. If we put pressure into perspective, we will surely enjoy ourcampus life more and benefit more from it accordingly.

1998    It is now generally accepted that vehicles(cars, trucks, etc.) are a major source of air pollution in cities.  Youare to suggest only ONE way to solve the problem.

One Way to Solve the Problem

We all know that vehicles are the major source of air pollution incities. to solve the headache, people have taken a variety of steps, but theresult is not satisfying. here, one way to solve the problem is to set gasthrifter in vehicle.
Setting gasthrifter in vehicle not only decreases the consumption of gas which is a majorsource of air pollution but also slows down the cost of possessing a vehiclewhich makes the price lower. Thereby, setting gas thrifter for all vehicleswill make air have a lower carbon dioxide content deriving from burning gas andcoal. The less carbon dioxide, the less air pollution. Therefore, throughsetting gas thrifter, vehicles will bum lower gases, and the problem willpartly be solved.
Despite otherways to solve the problem, i think the best way is to set gas thrifter invehicle for both effect and practice.

1999  A Major Advantage/Disadvantage of Advertising onTelevision

A Major Advantage of Advertising on Television

Nowadays we can see advertisements on Televisionevery day. Some people believe that advertising on television canbring us benefits, but others don’t think so. In my opinion, I am in favor ofthe advertising on television.

There are two reasons, I think, for the growing number ofadvertisement on TV. First, in a competitive economy, the consumer usually hasthe choice of several different brands of the same product. Thus, manufacturersare confronted with a problem—How to keep sales high enough to stay inbusiness. They solve this problem by advertising. Through advertising, eachmanufacturing company tries to convince consumers that its product is special.Second, most consumers are interested in advertisement. They wish to get fromTV advertisement the first hand information about new products, which enablesthem to choose the one they like best. As a result, there is a sharp increasein advertisement on the TV screen.

In conclusion, TV advertising plays a very important role in oureconomic behavior. With abundant information available on TV, we can makesensible choices as consumers.

2000   The Importance of Extracurricular Activities

College is aplace to raise all-round intellectuals, which means that life on campus shouldconsist of diverse activities rather than mere academic studies; and that’s whyextracurricular activities become important.

For onething, extracurricular activities can provide studentswith real-life experience in decision-making and problem-solving, through whichsome specific knowledge or skills are required. For example, the development ofleadership skills occurs as students assume ownership for the success of theirorganization. Such experience will help them more about themselves and pointthe way to their future career. For another, participation in extracurricular activities will enable students to develop abalance between academic accomplishments and social development. This necessarybalance will greatly aid each student to more successfully encounter thechallenges of our contemporary society. Moreover, participating in extracurricular activities could also boost students’development of interpersonal relationship. The awareness of responsibility, cooperation, punctuality, and undependability are fostered as each studentinteracts with other members of their group.

In short, extracurricular activities are vital because they could help students exploretheir interests and talents, teach them to manage their time and know theirlimits, as well as fit them inwith other students.

2001    Travel has become part of our life.  Andmore and more of us have come to know the significance of travel through ourown experience:

Travel Broadens the Mind

Sample A:

Nowadays, travel has become a popularactivity. Many people are rich enough to afford a travel at home or abroad. Asa matter of fact, travel has become part of our life. The increasing popularityof travel is, among others, due to the following reason: travel broadens ourminds to an extent which may not be reached previously.

For example, if we travel to Africa, we will find a culture totally different from that of ours, and people who thinkand live in a way unimaginable for us before we set foot on the continent. Andwe will marvel at the natural wonders, historic miracles and culturalbrilliances we find there. All these experiences help to broaden our minds. Asa result, our misunderstanding about the continent, if any, will be weeded out,our perspective of seeing the world possibly changed, our mode of thinkingaltered and, above all, our mind broadened.

Reading makes an erudite博学的 man; practicing a capable man; and traveling a broad-minded man.

Sample B:

Travel has many benefits to offer. It enrichesour experiences and helps us know more about the world, aside from relaxingourselves both physically and psychologically.

To begin with, travel is one of thebest ways to enrich our experiences. If we visit tourist attractions andhistorical or cultural relics at different places of our country or foreignlands, we will meet different people, enjoy exotic natural sceneries, have ataste of varied cultures and, in the long run, enrich our knowledge. Moreover, travel also helps to enlighten and broaden our minds, since it provides us withnew perspectives through what we learn from other cultures. For example, ithelps to reduce cultural prejudice after we have got a better understanding ofcivilizations that vary sharply from one another.

Travel is gaining increasingpopularity among us. We travel to relax ourselves, enrich our experiences andbroaden our minds.

2002The Best Way to Stay Healthy

Nowadays people are becoming increasingly awareof the importance of health. And they have different ways to stay healthy. Forexample, some exercise every day; others try to keep a balanced diet. For my part, the best way to stayhealthy is the combination of proper physical exercise and a balanced diet.

Both physical exercise and proper diet are essential to health. For one thing, physical exercise not onlybuilds a person’s body, but also helps to reduce his or her unnecessary fat.Indeed, this is very important since the redundancy of fat has been medicallyproved to be a cause of various diseases, some even fatal. For another, a balanced diet can providea person with the right kind and amount of nutrition required by the operationof our organs. As we know, a multitude of elements are effective in keeping our body running properly. A deficiency in any of them will result insome dysfunction. Yet a balanced diet may prevent this from happening.

All in all, I believe the best way to keep fit is taking properphysical exercise plus staying on a balanced diet. Neitheris dispensable if we are to enjoy sustainable health.

The Best Way to Stay Health

Nowadaysthe desire for good health is universal. Whereveryou are and whatever you do, staying healthy is alwaysimportant. With the improvement of our living standards, people are attachingmore and more importance to their health. However, which do you think is thebest way to keep healthy? Different people come up with different views: eatinggreen food, doing outdoor exercises or going to hospital for medical treatmentfrequently. As far as I am concerned, thebest way to keep healthy is to develop a good quality of psychology.

According to some surveys, nowadays, most patientsare not physically sick but mentally ill. The burden on their shoulders is muchheavier than others, so they can’ t step out of the shadow of depression andsadness. They need to release their spirit to the nature. Besides, if you have developed agood quality of psychology, you’ll become more sociable and thus more willingto play your part in the society. Enrolling for some keep-fit clubs or joiningsome travel agency, which by themselves are various versions of physicalexercise, will benefit you a lot.

As a poem says, youth isnot a period of time; it’s a state of mind. Everybody wants to keep young atheart because youth is a symbol for endless energy and passion for living. Keep a good quality of mind, or keep a sense of humor, to beprecise, even if you are 80, and you’ll never be old.

2003 The Importance Of Keeping a Good Mood
People in modern society live under a lot of pressure. There are three kinds of pressure working on people today: pressure fromeducation, family and career. It is easy to blame the school for charging toomuch money, the family members for the heavy burden, and the society for thefierce competition. It is universally acknowledged/ There is public perceptionpeople should relax. It is important for them to keep a good mood underwhatever circumstances.

Long gone are the days when people lived their life with acertain relaxation, sampling a wide variety of activities—film, music, art, poetry. But now, a lot of people suffer from a lot of pressure. They can’tcommunicate well with co-workers and family members, and have unbalanced,one-dimensional lives. Some people complain of symptoms of stress, forinstance, loss of appetite, a complete sense of exhaustion, insomnia and lowmorale. Thus have destructive effect on their health. People tend to losetemper easily, and this may interfere personal relationship. What’s more, ahigh rate of suicide may warn people of their emotional well-being.

To be a healthy person physically and psychologically, one shouldkeep a good mood, according to some psychology experts. Those little things mayseem relatively

insignificant—readingmystery novels, playing volleyball, spending time with family and friends, maintaining your emotional well-being, getting plenty of rest, going fishing. They can help you keep a good mood.

2004   Will Phones KillLetter Writing?

LetterWriting Will Not Be Killed

Nowadays, young people choose to phone each other rather writingletters. But even if so, I still maintain that letter writing will never bekilled by phones, though we have stepped into the Information Age.

Firstly, letters can express your subtlefeelings. With the increase of the living pace of modern society, we find thatthere is a lack of communication now. Sometimes when you are speaking tosomeone that you care and love on the phone, you are so shy that it’s too hardto express any of your feelings towards him/her. Your throat seems to beblocked! At this time, letters will help. Without any embarrassment, you canjust write down your deep concern and love on a piece of paper. When you drop theletter into the pillar-box, you will feel what he/she will receive is not onlya letter, but also your deepest love.

Secondly, letters can be kept as arecord of memory, while phones cannot. Just imagine when you open an old box ofletters and read them years later, a lot of beautiful and indelible memorieswill be brought back to you. What an irreplaceable feeling it is! And Ibelieve, this feeling is something that you can definitely never experiencethrough several phone calls.

All in all, letter writing will absolutely survive and even thrivein the Information Age. Phones can never kill it, neither will anything.

2005 My Idea Of A University Arts Festival

With merely four months to go before the arts festival starts, myfellow students are getting increasingly enthusiastic in brainstorming for thesignificant event. While in my opinion typical activities such as performances, forums and lectures on art should be taken into consideration.

The festival itself is an image-creating undertaking.Students should be attracted to the festival at the first glimpse, so theopening ceremony must be of vital importance. Fascinating performances, forinstance, pop music, ballet dancing and instrument playing ought to be put onin this section and if possible an orchestra can be invited to add spice to theceremony. Certainly only performances are too superficial. To help studentstake a deeper insight of arts, forums and lectures must be held. Forums can beheld through BBS owning to the wide accessibility to Internet, whereasprofessors and experts can be invited to give lectures concerning basicknowledge of art and the role that art plays in daily life. However, prior toall the above, professional organization, detailed plans and effectivepromulgation are needed to promise a success.

A university arts festival, in brief, must embrace richcontent and careful preparation. Only then can it be successful and caneveryone enjoy himself.

2006Your Attitude toward FinancialPlan, Money Savings and Spending.

MyIdea of Saving Money

范文一

A recent survey, carried out by a Beijing-based informationcompany, has shown that two thirds of the Chinese college students today favorthe idea of saving money for later use, whereas quite many others deem it much better to use tomorrow’s money today.Personally, I side with the former.

Firstly, saving money can relieve one’s anxiety in case ofaccidents, disease or other mishaps. As we all know, when one faces suchtragedies as fir damage or fatal disease, one would need a large amount ofmoney to survive such difficulties. Secondly, saving money can give one a sense of fulfillment. Since most people work hard every day, theywill be quiet happy and satisfied with his “achievement” when they find theyhave accumulated a large deposit in the bank. Thirdly, saving money allows one to give a helping hand to others. Withmoney available at the moment, one can offer badly needed help to those intemporary difficulty, say, those who are suffering from flood, famine, a caraccident, or things like that. Yet taking a loan from a bank is often too costly. Thus, the timely help will be rewarded withgratitude. A dependable friendship will eventually be fostered.

To sum up, saving money does have many advantages. Indeed, it isan important aspect of the Chinese conception of virtue. Therefore, let’s start saving moneyfrom today on.

范文二

Using Tomorrow’s Money for Today’sComfort

Recently a Beijing information company did a survey of studentlife among more than 700 students, and the results have shown that 67 percentstudents think that saving money is a good habit, while the rest believe usingtomorrow’s money today is better. For me, I agree with the latter point ofview.

Most people may have heard of the story about a Chinese old ladyand an American old lady. The former spent all her life painstakingly saving enough money to buy a newapartment, without living in it for a long time before her death, while the latter first borrowed money formthe bank to buy a new apartment in her youth and lived in it comfortably, thenspent the rest of her life paying the loan. In the story, the results are thesame---they both bought an apartment, but their life experiences are radicallydifferent; the former hardly lived in the house for she had spent all her lifesaving money for it, while the latter enjoyed living there for quite a longtime because she “ used tomorrow’s money today”. Bycomparison, we can clearly see that the latter’s choices of lifestyle ismuch better than the former’s Then, why don’t we use tomorrow’s money fortoday’s comfort?

To conclude, I think using tomorrow’s money today is much betterthan saving money all day.

2007Is It Wise to Make Friends Online?

范文一

Currently the public has paid great attention to the debateconcerning whether it is wise or not to make friends online. Taking all thefavorable and unfavorable aspects into account, I stand firmly on the side thatwe can benefit from making friends online. This point of perspective, Ibelieve, shared by the largest proportion of the public, can be explained inthe following tangible reasons.
Firstly, communication isunquestionably regarded as an extremely important element in our society.Unfortunately, there are people around us appear to be apathetic and have gotno idea about how to make an acquaintance with a stranger. They may be too shyor nervous or they are afraid of being refused by others. But remember no manis an island entire of itself, every man is a part of the continent, a part ofthe main. As a consequence, regardless of the fact that whether you like it ornot, as individuals, we have to be part of the main. And, internet, as a massmedium, provides us with a chance. Things turn to be quite different becausesitting in front of the computer screen, people who are scared to make friendsonline can talk with others more naturally and confidently.
Secondly, it is well acknowledgedthat we can learn a lot from our e-pals. If our friend online were a foreigner,we can practice English with him or her. What’s more, we can have a glimpse ofgeneral information of another countrysuch as the culture, the tradition, the custom or the geography.
From what have mentioned above, wecan come to the conclusion that making friends online can do us some good. Andcommunication online is having a greater impact on our daily life.

范文二

Is it Wise to Make Friends on the Internet?

With the overwhelming development of Internet, never has been acommunication tool, like MSN or QQ, that makes people contact with each otherusing such a convenient and extensive method. However, is it wise to makeacquaintance with cyber friends throughout the globe even when each other’sidentity is secretly classified? My answer is no.

Admittedly, making friends online bring us a greatamount of joy and unimagined stimulating experience. Nevertheless, as we canonly communicate people though words or images, someone with ulterior motivesmay hide behind the screen waiting for a moment to conspire his illegalactions. Just as the joke tells, a 21 years old pretty girl may turn out to bean 80 years old ugly drunker.

In addition, people are easily getting addicted to this fictitiousrelationship and losing the ability of surviving in their real livingenvironment. Net communication can never take the place of a face to facetaking or a familiar attracting expression. Whatis more, who are you turning into when emergency happens, someone thousandsmiles far away that you even don’t know about his name, or the next doorneighbors who smile at you every morning?

In conclusion, when we try to make friends online, it is necessary to besensible and take precautions to ensure our safety especially meeting netfriends outside. Only in this way, can we enjoy the exciting experience andextremely convenient the net brings to us.

2008   The Benefits of Volunteering

Volunteering has grown into a fashion these years, with volunteersranging from college students to white collar workers. It is reported now China has 4.5 million registered volunteers having provided more than 4.5 billion hours ofvolunteer work. Why would so many people like to do volunteer work? Are thereany benefits of volunteering?

The answer is absolutely yes. First of all, through volunteeringwe can gain more experiences. Whatever volunteering work we do, either being avolunteer teacher for a village school or a volunteer worker in a retiredhouse, we can taste different lifestyles and broaden our horizon.

Secondly, through volunteering we can acquire the sense of beingneeded. Many people feel frustrated with travails in life and empty with thecycling of working and resting. They gradually become numb, losing the sense ofbeing needed. By joining the volunteer group and offering help voluntarily topeople who need it, we may feel happy and fulfilled again.

Thirdly, through volunteering we can learn more good qualities.Volunteer work is team work, which needs good cooperation. We can know peoplewith different personalities and different background joining in the volunteergroup and devoting to the volunteer work together. From our co - volunteers wecan absorb many good qualities that could help us be better persons.

In conclusion, volunteering is of great benefit in that we cangain more experiences, acquire the sense of being needed and learn more goodqualities.

2009 WillTourism Bring Harm to the Environment?

In recent years, tourism has developed rapidly in China. Many people believe that tourismproduce positive effects on economic growth and we should try our best topromote tourism. But what these people fail to see is that tourism may bringabout a disastrous impact on our environment. As for me, I'm firmly convincedthat too much tourists bring harm to the environment.
The bad impact of tourism on theenvironment has mainly expressed itself in various ways. One way is the processof exploiting a new scenic spot. In order to attract tourists, a lot ofartificial facilities have been built, which have certain unfavorable effectson the environment. This process usually breaks the ecological balance of thearea. In some mountainous places, trees are being cut down to build hotels forothers to see and explore the beauty of the mountains. Then land slides andmud-rock flows come up. Another way the development of tourism has damaged theenvironment occurs when tourists go to scenic spots. Some tourists don't havethe awareness to protect the environment, and ignorantly throw their garbagehere and there. Some people even kill the local wildlife to eat, which badlydamages the balance of the natural environment.
It is wrong to sacrifice theenvironment for the growth of tourism. We must keep in mind that too muchtourists bring harm to the environment. We need to find a balance betweensatisfying the needs of tourists and reducing to a minimum the pollution theycause.

2010 ShouldCollege Students Hire Cleaners?

It was recentlyreported that a few college students hired a help to do some cleaning in theirdorm. These students attribute this behavior to their limited spare time. Theyclaim that it can help them to save time and pay more attention to theirstudies. As far as I am concerned, such a chain of reasoning is seriouslyflawed, and they are just making an excuse for their laziness. College studentsshould not hire a help for their dormitory cleaning.

To begin with, it isnot necessary for college students to hire a cleaner. As boarding-schoolstudents living in tiny dorms, we don’t have much cleaning to do at all. Whatwe need to do every day is just washing or some basic cleaning, which welearned to do in childhood. Undoubtedly we can manage them ourselves. Inaddition, cleaning up a dorm won’t take much time. Conversely, it may help usto divert our attention away from studies and reduce our pressure. As a result,we don’t need to hire a cleaner to keep our dorms clean.

A more important reason why university studentsshould not hire a cleaner is that university education involves both knowledgelearning and character building. In the university we should try our best to bemore independent and self-reliant. Otherwise, we cannot shoulder greaterresponsibility when we step into the society. If now we still rely on cleanersfor dorm sanitation, how can we earn our own living in the future?Consequently, the most basic thing we should do now is to take care ofourselves and prepare for our future, instead of evading responsibility byhiring a help.

In summary, college students should learn to stand ontheir own feet. Hiring a cleaner is definitely not a wise choice.

2011Should Private Car Owners be Taxed for Pollution?

With the development ofsociety, many people can afford a car. As the number of the cars is rising, weare facing some problems. One big problem is the pollution caused by the use ofcars. In order to solve this problem, government agencies in some big citiesrecently suggest that a “pollution tax” should be put on private cars in orderto control the number of cars and reduce pollution in the city. For my part, Iagree to this viewpoint, and my reasons are as follows:
To begin with, cars contribute tothe environmental pollution. For example, a lot of big cities in China are now plagued by serious air pollution. Then it is the responsibility of theseprivate car owners to pay for the pollution and they should be taxed. Thepurpose of collecting environmental pollution tax is to raise the fund, andthen utilize the tax revenue lever to protect our environment.
Secondly, it is a good way toraise people's environmental awareness by putting a pollution tax on private cars.If people suffer from the financial loss when making a decision, they willthink more about their decision. Then they will consider more when deciding tobuy a private car. Consequently, the increase rate of the number of the privatecars can be controlled.
In a word, it is a very good andnecessary attempt to use the means of taxation to treat the pollution. Ofcourse, it must be kept in mind that all people, including the private carowners, should try their best to protect the environment.

2012 The Dragon Boat Festival

The Dragon Boat Festival, also called the Duanwu Festival, is atraditional Chinese holiday occurring on the fifth day of the fifth lunarmonth. The festival is believed to have originated in ancient China. Todayseveral explantions exist concerning its origins. However, the most popular onerelates to the suicide of Qu Yuan, an upright poet and statesman of the WarringStates Period. He drowned himself in the Miluo River, where the local residentspaddled boates out to retrieve his body and then to scare the fish away, whichis said to be the origin of the Dragon Boat Festival.

Until today, as a celebration of the festival, the dragon boatracing is still practiced—a number of dragon-shaped boats row forward incadence with a drumbeat competing to reach the finish. It’s quite a spectaclewith colorful boats and thousands of audience cheering along the riversides. Besides, the festival is also marked by eating ”zongzi”, a pyramid-shaped dumpling madeof glutinous rice and wrapped in reed leaves to add a special flavor. Othercustoms are also observed, including hanging healthy herbs on the front door, drinking realgar wine.

Thanks to its re-recongnition as a public holiday in 2005, theDdragon Boat Festival has been enjoying more popularity and significance.Although the essence of the festival might differ from the past, it stilloffers the observer an opportunity to have a glimpse of the rich Chinesecultural heritage.

2013   The Advantages of Being Careful with Money in Daily Life

Nowadays there is a hot debate on whether people including students should becareful with their money in their daily life since they try their best to savemoney Some peoplethink it is not good to do so because this may not make people smart consumers But in my eyes the advantages of beingcareful with money in daily life outweigh the disadvantages

First being careful with money is avirtue that can always benefit people Being thrifty is of great help especially when the economic status around the world is not verygood and it becomes harder to earn money than before A good habit of being carefulwith money will help many people go through this difficult period or any otherdifficult financial situation in their life People with this awareness will think carefullybefore deciding to buy anything For studentsthis awareness is also of great help since they mainly depend ontheir parents for financial supports When they keep this awareness in their mind they will definitely avoidwasting money

Secondly being careful with money is in fact a good way of practicsing how to manage one's money In current society it is necessary to learnsomthing about finance But theories are usually hard to learn In contrast most people can learn quicklyby practisingBeing careful with money means an efficient use of money which in essence equals to part of the job of afinancial plannerBeing careful with money can teach people to make best use of their money

Itis true that being too careful with money may have some disadvantages for example it may cause people to ignoreother aspects of commodities But overall this behavior is good and has its reality basis Moneyconsciousness is always neededin the marketorientedeconomy

2014  ShouldEnglish Majors Study Math

Nowadays, there is a widespread concern over the issue that should Englishmajors study math. Some people hold that all of students should study math, others do not agree.

As for me, I agree with the later opinion. With university budgetscut , more and more universities choose to cancel math education. Providingmath as part of education helps develop intelligence that leads to greatersuccess in school and in life. Every student in the nation should have aneducation in math until they prepare to work. Universities should do everythingthey can to spread the importance of math. And advance the resort of matheducation as part of the core. Giving a student opportunity to study accountingcan promote his or her later success in society. Researchers have found thatstudents involved in math likely to succeed in society.

Math is not only a skill, but also a culture in a word , non-Englishmajors study English in college is benefit to their life and future. Theyshould study Math in college.

2015 How IDeal with Stress

In today’ s increasingly competitive society, the tempo of people’sliving is speeding up and more and more people are loaded with a growing amountof stress and tension. Everyone feels overwhelmed and stressed in some way, asstress is an unavoidable consequence of life. The moments when I was caught upin extreme stress and overwhelm are when I was experiencing great difficultiesfinding satisfactory jobs.

So what can we do when we feel overwhelmed and stressed about thethings over which we have little control? In my opinion, one way to work off stressis to get moving. When I am stressed, I just take a walk, after which I alwaysfeel calmer and relaxed. Besides, I’ve learned to confide my stress to others, which does help a lot. Friends and family members can be a great source ofideas and encouragement. Last but not least, I try to get enough rest and eatwell, both of which enable me to be healthy enough and properly fueled to help made-stress.

As is mentioned above, like it or not, it is impossible for us tolive completely free of stress. However, as long as we can come up with our ownways to cope with it, stress will not discourage us from living a pleasantlife.

2016  ShouldParents Take Their Children to Spend Holidays during Term Time?

When it comes to whether parents should take their children to spendholidays during term-time, views on the issue vary from person to person. Parents claim that by doing so, they can save a lot of money born of busyschool holidays. Educational officials strongly oppose this tendency on theground that it encourages truancy, which in turn damages a childs education. From myperspective, the merits of banning term-time holidays outweigh its demerits.

To begin with, taking tough measures on this kind of truancy isconducive to the normal teaching process, one of the key elements to guaranteekids academicperformance. As we know, currently, teachers have the discretion to approve acertain time of absence from school for each child, which is supposed to be forillness and is not supposed to be granted for holidays. By definitelyabolishing the right of head teachers to authorize absence from the classroom, those teachers can rarely be pestered by parentswho want to take children to go on a holiday just to save money, which severelydisrupts teaching process. What s more, without strict penalties imposed on the parents who lead totheir kids playingtruant, those parents can gradually view asking for holiday leave as a right.Once this cultural expectation is formed, the level of truancy willdramatically increase.

Accordingly, the growing trend of term-time holidays should bebanned with no delay. In this way, teachers can impart knowledge withoutdisturbance and parents will be deterred from saving money at the expense ofsacrificing their kid’s education.

2017 WithIntelligent Machines to Do the Thinking, Will Our Brains Get Lazy?

Nowadays, many aspects of people’s daily life have undergone considerablechanges because of the recent development in artificial intelligence.Obviously, artificial intelligence has already completely renovatedpeople’s lifestyle. On the one hand, the contribution of artificialintelligence to the society is prominent and people’s dependence on itis an irreversible trend. People enjoy the benefits and conveniencebrought by intelligent machines. On the other hand, people are still concernedabout its negative impact, for example, whether our brains will regress withintelligent machines to do the thinking.

In my opinion, artificial intelligence will enable our brains to getmore creative. Admittedly, a lot of work has been done by intelligent machines. It seems that the function of people has been weakened and people’s brains havebeen replaced. As a matter of fact, thanks to intelligent machines, people canexpand their creative energy and add new varieties. Simply speaking, whenpeople are free from tedious, repetitive, sometimes even dangerous work, workefficiency will undoubtedly be improved. As a result, people can spare moretime to do what they want and pursue what they dream of, which is the premiseof creativity. Moreover, creativity stems primarily from knowledgeand thinking. Once people have the opportunity to do more thinking andlearning, their intelligence would be enhanced rather than weakened.

Although artificial intelligence is the exhibition of people’shigh degree of creative power, it should be noted that it is like adouble-edged sword. The sensible choice is to embrace its advantages and copewith the problems it has aroused. This is what an advanced and rational societyshould be like.
